Embark on a scenic hike along Difficult Run Stream Valley Trail to discover stunning Potomac views and picturesque falls. Wear your hiking boots for this rocky adventure.

• Open daily from 7AM - dusk 
• Bring plenty of water and snacks - there are great picnic spots! 
• Decide if you want to do the 5 mile loop: https://www.alltrails.com/trail/us/virginia/great-falls-park-from-difficult-run or a shorter hike: https://www.alltrails.com/parks/us/virginia/great-falls-park
• Skip this part and head straight to Great Falls Park to visit the overlooks and do an easier hike. Entry fee is $20 per car, cash or card

💪 Pro tips
• Come early, so it’s less crowded 
• Dogs are welcome on-leash
• We did the Great Falls from Difficult Run hike *counterclockwise* and it took us about 2 hours (5 mile loop)
• Keep GPS open - it’s easy to miss a turn and lose the trail
• First few miles are rocky with moderate inclines, so wear your hiking boots!

• They sell pints and quarts of ice cream to go, and tons of local products - the pies, cookies, brownies, and bread all looked delicious!

• Leave some time to walk around afterwards - if you skipped lunch (like us) stop by any of the local restaurants

Then grab some ice cream as your reward. 

You'll start at difficult run parking lot. It's small, so arrive early. 

The hike starts at the back of the lot, taking you along Difficult Run.

Continue uphill and emerge from the forest for epic views of the Potomac.

Find a rock for a quick rest stop and enjoy your snacks.

If you're clumsy, like me, wear your boots and watch your step as you climb the rocks.

Three overlooks give you stunning views of the cascading falls below. 

When you're ready, use your GPS to follow the trail right back to the parking lot.
